BBC presenter Lauren Laverne will be returning to work this month after taking a break due to a cancer diagnosis. Laverne, who is 46 years old, will be back to recording episodes of The One Show and Desert Island Discs on BBC Radio 4 starting in November. The BBC has expressed their excitement to have her back in the studio, with new episodes set to air on Radio 4 from December 1st. Additionally, she will return to BBC Radio 6 Music in the new year.
Laverne’s last show on 6 Music was on August 15th, and various presenters have been filling in for her since then. The last new episode of Desert Island Discs was released on August 11th, featuring Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight. Since then, extended and classical editions of the interview program have been airing on Radio 4. The last episode of The One Show that Laverne presented was also in August.
A new episode of Desert Island Discs, featuring a pre-recorded interview with comedian Mark Steel, will be released on December 1st. Laverne will be recording more episodes as well as Christmas editions of the series in the upcoming weeks.
On August 21st, Laverne announced her cancer diagnosis, stating that it was caught early during a screening test and that she is expected to make a full recovery. She expressed gratitude towards her family, friends, and colleagues for their support during this time. Laverne did not specify the type of cancer she has.
It is inspiring to see Lauren Laverne’s positive outlook and determination to return to work after facing a health challenge. Her openness about her diagnosis and journey to recovery serves as a reminder of the importance of early detection and the support of loved ones during difficult times. We wish her continued strength and healing as she resumes her work on the airwaves.
