A hospital in Bristol had to be evacuated after a massive fire on the roof yesterday. St Michael’s Hospital on Southwell Street had to shut down and send everyone packing when the fire started around 4.30pm. Patients, staff, and even babies had to be moved out to safety. Luckily, no one got hurt in the incident. The fire was put out and the hospital was back up and running by 7pm.
The fire was caused by a fault in the solar panels on the roof, according to Avon Fire and Rescue Service. The rest of the hospital was not affected by the fire, so that’s a relief. Dramatic images and videos captured the black smoke billowing into the sky above Bristol. Crews from various fire stations rushed to the scene to help out and make sure everything was under control.
The Managing Director of the University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust, Professor Stuart Walker, confirmed that the hospital was open for business again. Some appointments had to be rescheduled, but those affected were informed. The hospital is ready to serve those in need of medical attention, including the delivery suite. A big shoutout to the amazing colleagues, emergency services, and local partners who worked hard to keep everyone safe during the incident.
