An iconic nightclub in the outskirts of Bristol, Chasers in Kingswood, has sadly announced its permanent closure after nearly five decades of operation. The venue, which has been run by four generations of the same family, made the difficult decision to shut down due to a lack of foot traffic in the area.
The nightclub first opened its doors in 1977 and was later constructed in 1980 as a purpose-built venue to cater to the people of Kingswood and the surrounding areas. Despite reopening in March 2022 after facing challenges during the Covid-19 lockdowns, the owners have now decided to close Chasers for good.
In a heartfelt statement shared on Facebook, the owners expressed their disappointment over the declining footfall in Kingswood, making it financially unsustainable to operate such a large property. They highlighted the increasing costs of living and the significant impact on the hospitality industry, with many pubs and clubs facing closure on a daily basis.
Despite their efforts to address feedback and improve the venue upon their return in 2022, the owners acknowledged that the industry and the community have faced challenges that have only worsened over time. As a result, they have set their final operating night as Chasemas eve, planning to remain closed for most of November and only open on Saturdays in December.
The closure of Chasers has left many in the community saddened, with the venue holding a special place in the hearts of locals and beyond. Known for its legendary status in Bristol and being referenced by local comedians like Russell Howard and Stephen Merchant, Chasers will be remembered for the memories and experiences shared by patrons over the years.
As the final nights approach, the venue will be open on Fridays and Saturdays until November 2, with special ‘Party Peeps’ events scheduled for October 25, November 29, and December 20. The owners have expressed their gratitude to the staff and the community for their support, acknowledging the efforts made to keep the venue alive.
With over 200 comments on the announcement post within hours, many have shared their fond memories and expressed their sadness at the loss of such an iconic venue. While the closure marks the end of an era for Chasers nightclub, it leaves behind a legacy of music, laughter, and community spirit that will be remembered by all who have been a part of its history.
