Bristol Bake Off star Briony May Williams is set to join BBC Radio Bristol and BBC Radio Somerset next month as a presenter. She will be covering for Andy Bennett for three afternoons in November, bringing her charm and passion for the region to local audiences. Briony, who lives in Bristol with her family, made it to the semi-final of the Great British Bake Off in 2018 after taking up baking while off work with PCOS. Despite being the first visibly disabled baker on the show, she chose not to use special equipment and wanted to be treated like everyone else.
Since her time on Bake Off, Briony has ventured into broadcasting, presenting shows like Food Unwrapped and making appearances on various programs. She has also been an ambassador for disability and mental health charities, being recognized as one of the UK’s most influential disabled people in 2021 and 2022. Briony expressed her excitement about covering for Andy Bennett, highlighting her love for radio since childhood. She will be hosting the Friday Afternoon show on BBC Radio Bristol and Somerset for the first three Fridays of November from 2pm-6pm.
In addition to her radio work, Briony recently served as a judge in BBC Radio Bristol’s Make a Difference awards. Her journey from a Bake Off contestant to a successful broadcaster and advocate for disability rights is truly inspiring. The support she has received from the BBC and the local community has been instrumental in her career progression. Briony’s dedication to her craft and her willingness to challenge stereotypes make her a role model for aspiring broadcasters and individuals with disabilities alike.
Listeners can look forward to engaging and entertaining content from Briony as she takes on this new role. Her unique perspective and experiences are sure to bring a fresh and exciting dynamic to the airwaves. Tune in to BBC Radio Bristol and BBC Radio Somerset to catch Briony May Williams in action this November.
