A man has been found guilty of raping and killing an unconscious NHS worker named Natalie Shotter in Southall Park, west London, after a night out. The man, Mohamed Iidow, was convicted of rape and manslaughter following a trial at the Old Bailey. Natalie’s mother, Dr. Cas Shotter Weetman, expressed relief at finally getting justice for her daughter after three and a half years. She described Natalie as a beautiful soul.

During the trial, evidence was presented that Iidow had a history of sexual activity involving young people online and had expressed disturbing thoughts about rape. The court heard that Natalie died of a heart attack caused by Iidow repeatedly raping her while she was unconscious. CCTV footage showed Iidow approaching Natalie, who was lying unconscious on a park bench, and moving her body around in different positions as he assaulted her. He then left the scene to buy cat food and mouthwash before returning.

DNA evidence linked Iidow to the crime, and he was arrested at his home. Despite claiming that the sexual activity was consensual, he was found guilty by the jury. Natalie’s mother, a long-time NHS worker, expressed gratitude for the verdict and described her daughter as a kind and giving person who had so much more to offer.

Detective Chief Inspector Wayne Jolley, who led the investigation, emphasized the vulnerability of Natalie and the tragic nature of the crime. He commended Natalie’s friends and family for their strength throughout the trial. The Crown Prosecution Service highlighted the complexity of the case and the cooperation between various agencies to secure the conviction.

The case has deeply affected all those involved, given its rarity and disturbing details. Iidow’s actions were predatory and took advantage of a vulnerable woman who should have been safe in a public place. Despite his claims of consent, the evidence proved that Natalie was unconscious during the entire assault. The CPS remains committed to seeking justice for victims of such heinous crimes.

The tragic loss of Natalie’s life has left her children and loved ones devastated. The community has come together to support her family and remember Natalie for the kind and loving person she was. As Iidow faces a long prison sentence, the hope is that justice has been served for Natalie and that her memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
