Project Carnivora: Transforming the Landscape for Iconic Predators
A groundbreaking initiative is underway at Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm in Wraxall, North Somerset, as they embark on Project Carnivora, a multi-phased project aimed at championing the welfare and conservation of some of the world’s most iconic and threatened carnivores. This ambitious project will see the transformation of existing habitats to accommodate African lions, tigers, Arctic foxes, and critically endangered vultures, providing them with spaces to thrive and flourish.
The Vision Unveiled: Enhancing Lives and Raising Awareness
The zoo, as it gears up to commemorate its 25th anniversary, has unveiled its new vision and five-year strategy, with a strong emphasis on caring for these incredible predators and raising awareness about their conservation. The first phase of the project is already in motion, focusing on modernizing and extending the lion habitat to provide Arusha, Kojo, and Tau with more space to roam and enjoy new enrichment opportunities. Visitors can expect immersive viewing areas and interactive learning experiences that reflect the lions’ natural habitat.
Supporting Global Rescue Efforts: A Call to Action
Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm is actively working with the internationally renowned animal welfare charity AAP to provide a forever home for a rescued tiger. The new tiger habitat, set to open in summer 2025, will offer visitors the chance to connect with these majestic animals while supporting global rescue efforts. While the majority of the project is funded by the zoo, they are calling upon the public to help raise the final £175,000 needed to build the new tiger habitat and provide a rescued tiger with a new lease on life.
A Brighter Future for Predators: Transformative Design and Animal Wellness
The new habitats have been carefully designed with a focus on animal welfare by specialist zoo designer Jonathan McLoughlin, ensuring that the animals can explore their natural behaviors and interact with their surroundings. The project has garnered support from Dr. Jo Judge, CEO of BIAZA, who emphasizes the crucial role that zoos like Noah’s Ark play in protecting wildlife and providing top-quality environments for these incredible species.
As visitors witness the changes unfolding at the zoo, with new mounds and boulders being added to the lion enclosure, it is evident that Project Carnivora is not just about creating new habitats but also about fostering a deeper connection between visitors and these magnificent predators. With each phase of the project aimed at benefiting the welfare of the species involved, Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm is paving the way for a brighter future for carnivores around the world.
