A fallen tree has caused the closure of a major A-road on the outskirts of Bristol this afternoon. The A4 Keynsham bypass has been closed in one direction from the Bath Road junction to the A4174 (Hicks Gate roundabout), with the eastbound carriageway remaining open. Traffic is queueing and delays are building, with congestion stretching as far back as Saltford. Inrix reports that the incident was first reported at 4:34pm, stating, “A4 Keynsham By-pass Westbound closed, queueing traffic due to accident from Broadmead Lane (Broadmead Roundabout) to A4174 (Hicks Gate Roundabout), with congestion to the Saltford area.”

According to witnesses, there were no collisions reported, but the fallen tree has caused traffic chaos around the Broadmead Lane roundabout. One witness mentioned that there were two police cars and a van at the scene. Avon and Somerset Police have confirmed their presence at the scene and have closed the westbound carriageway. They have not provided an estimated time for the road to reopen.

Bus passengers traveling on the opposite side of the fallen tree have reported significant traffic building up on the A4 Keynsham bypass. One passenger mentioned that while the journey into Bath was relatively unaffected, there was increased traffic when exiting the Keynsham side of the bypass and entering Saltford. Leaving Bath seemed normal for a Sunday afternoon, but unusual traffic was encountered on the Saltford side of the bypass.

Images of the fallen tree on the westbound side of the A4 Keynsham bypass have been shared, showing the closure of that side of the carriageway. The incident was reported just after 4:30pm this afternoon. Passengers traveling from Bath to Bristol are advised to expect delays of over 30 minutes due to the road closure.

The situation is still ongoing, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available. Stay tuned for further developments on the A4 Keynsham bypass closure.
