A man in South Gloucestershire has been sentenced to 27 years in prison for stabbing a woman multiple times, leaving her with life-changing injuries that require her to use a wheelchair. The incident took place at his home in Shortwood Road, Pucklechurch, on September 11, where the victim, a 39-year-old woman, was found with six stab wounds and rushed to the hospital.
The perpetrator, Ashley Joyner, was charged with attempted murder the following day and was found guilty in court. The victim, in a statement read out on her behalf, expressed her fear and distrust towards men following the attack, stating that she will never be able to fully trust a man again. She also mentioned the physical consequences of the attack, including partial hearing loss and the need to use a wheelchair.
In addition to the sentence for attempted murder, Joyner was also sentenced to eight months in prison for assault occasioning actual bodily harm. This charge stemmed from a separate incident at a social club in Pucklechurch in July 2023, where Joyner had attacked a man with a bottle without provocation.
Detective Constable Mike Tarling, who worked on the case, praised the victim for her courage and strength throughout the investigation and recovery process. He emphasized the lasting impact of Joyner’s violent actions on the victim’s life and commended her for how she has handled the situation.
Tarling also highlighted the public safety risk posed by Joyner, referring to him as a dangerous offender who will now be behind bars for many years to come. The sentencing reflects the severity of the crimes committed and aims to ensure justice for the victim and the community at large.
